Adios Dark Circles!

March 28, 2019

Under-Eye skin is one of the most delicate areas of skin in the human body. The finely textured dermis/epidermis has no oil glands and is exceptionally susceptible to dark circles, rings or shadows.  The dark circles are formed due to different causes such as heredity, ageing, lack of sleep, mental or physical stress and nutritional deficiencies.

While some of the causes of dark under eye circles may be beyond your control, there are various ways you can take action to diminish dark circles under the eyes.  Several of the changes you can make will also reduce wrinkles around the eyes, which is a massive bonus!  Taking firm control of your lifestyle and skin habits will help you appear as the most energised, healthy, beautiful version of yourself.

1. Reduce or eliminate consumption of alcohol and cigarettes.

2. Create optimal conditions for quality sleep and make sure to get 7-8 hours per night.

3. Consume a healthy diet including antioxidant-rich, plant-based foods and keep hydrated!

You should also try some of the following methods and see how you get on. These skincare routines are all known to achieve excellent results, so give one a go for a good amount of time and if it isn't working for you, try another method. Please don't expect instant results; some can actually take months before you start to notice anything, so please remain patient.

Egg White & Witch Hazel Mask
This mask has skin tightening properties, can remove under eye bags and it can also help to prevent wrinkles.

Method
Crack an egg into a bowl, separating the egg white from the yolk. Mix it up thoroughly until frothy and then add a few drops of Witch Hazel (natural skin tightening astringent) and mix once again.

Once completed, apply the mixture under your eyes with a soft brush or cloth. You don't need too much but make sure you go smoothly under the eye, the lighter, the better, as you don't want to be dragging your eyes.

Then allow this to sit under your eyes for no longer than 20 minutes. You will notice that the mixture will harden under your eyes and tighten the skin. Wash off with warm water and repeat this daily.

Rose Water
Rose water can help to rejuvenate the skin, has a soothing effect on tired eyes and works great as a skin toner.

Method
Add two soft cotton pads into a bowl and now drench them with Rose Water. Let it sit for a couple of minutes until the cotton pads absorb the rose water.

Now fold the pads in half and place under your eyes. It is easier to place them under your eyes while laying down. Leave them there for around 15 minutes and if you can, try to do it twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed.

Vitamin E & Almond Oil
This combination is excellent for delicate skin and helps to fade under eye circles.

Method
Mix an equal measure of Vitamin E and Almond Oil in a bottle and shake it up.

To use, take off the cap and put a little bit on your finger. Now apply this mixture under your eyes. Gently dab it under your eyes and if you want, you can gently massage it in for a couple of minutes.

Do it before bedtime and allow it to sit overnight. Wash it off gently in the morning with warm water and repeat this process every day.
