Hi Mystic Moments, my Nan was born in Rome but moved to England many aeons ago. With her birthday coming up I thought why not remind her of home by buying her some saucy scents of Italy. Please name me some oils that will knock her socks off!
Luca, 23 from Bedford.
Hi Luca, thanks for getting in contact with Mystic Moments. Quite the artist you are, I hope that paint isn't too tricky to clean off. Next time you feel rebellious and decide to host another finger painting session, don't forget to invite me! Right, it's time to focus on the task at hand, your Nan and her stinky socks. Italy is well known for their selection of essential oils, so I'm quietly confident that your Nan's will be blown away! (not literally) Italy is notoriously known for its sweet citrus scents, and the essential oils I'm going to introduce to you unequivocally portray that.
The Italian Stallion's
As the name suggests, this particular oil is produced in Sicily. Bergamot oil is an essential oil extracted from fruit peels and rinds, which creates a citrusy aroma enjoyed by many. It comes from a fruit that's a funky hybrid of lemon and orange. The scent of this essential oil is similar to a sweet light orange peel oil with a floral note.
Bergamot oil is well known to build confidence and enhance your mood; it's excellent for depression as it helps to alleviate stress and anxiety. The benefits go far beyond its ability to boost your mood, with its additional positive effects on your cardiovascular, digestive and respiratory systems. It’s also used to prevent the growth of bacteria, relieve muscle pain and boost the health of your skin.
Clementine Native to Italy, Clementine essential oil is extracted from the peel of the fruit. Clementine’s are generally sweeter, juicier and less acidic than oranges. The Clementine tree is a exquisite cross between a sweet orange tree and a mandarin tree. It has a crisp, fresh, citrusy aroma that smells divine!
Because of its refreshing aroma, Clementine essential oil is known to combat fatigue, lift your mood and revitalise with its anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties; it is also thought to be fantastic in the healing of skin blemishes and acne. The sweet yet tangy aroma of Clementine oil purifies the mind and relieves anxiety, tension and stress. Thus promoting ease, tranquillity and clarity as it is a restorative agent to the brain.
Lemon Cold Pressed In Italy, Sicily and Calabria became lemon-producing regions because the trees thrive in the southern climate. The tradition continues to this day. The lemon, the fruit with the sunny-yellow peel, is a citrus fruit known for its refreshing, sour taste. Lemon essential oil accumulates in the multitude of small secretory pockets embedded in the peel of the pericarp. Even the slightest pressure releases a pleasant, fruity, lemony fragrance. The same principle is applied to extract the essential oil; the pericarp is cold-pressed.
Lemon oil is one of the most popular citrus essential oils because of its versatility and potent antioxidant properties. Lemon is probably best known for its ability to cleanse toxins from the body, and it’s widely used to stimulate lymphatic drainage, rejuvenate energy, purify skin, and fight bacteria and fungi. Amazingly Lemon oil can also be used as a natural teeth whitener, household cleaner, laundry freshener, mood booster and nausea reliever. It can even highlight your hair! This essential oil is the definition of an all-rounder.
Lime Distilled This oil is readily available from the harvest located in southern Italy. Lime is a small evergreen tree with glossy leaves, similar to the Lemon tree. It has small green fruits from which the rind is used to extract the oil. The distilled oil is more substantial and has a bitter undertone when compared to the Lime Cold Pressed. It is the most aromatically potent of the fruity citrus oils and boasts a sweet, fresh scent that is to die for.
Aromatically, the delightful citrus scent of Lime is invigorating and may help promote encourage creativity and mental clarity. Topically, it supplies the skin with antioxidants, which may diminish dark spots due to ageing and acts as an insect deterrent. The oil, especially when diffused in your local environment, can promote emotional well-being and balance. It’s a convenient way to get through the stressful moments of the day. Lime oil also supports a healthy digestive system and may aid in weight management.
Orange Blood Our Orange Blood Essential Oil is cold pressed from the red-fleshed blood orange citrus fruits grown in beautiful, sun-kissed orchards in Italy. The blood orange is an exciting variety of orange sweet, and they both share the same botanical name, Citrus Sinensis. It inherits its name from its blood-red coloured fruit segments. Aromatically, both sweet orange and orange blood are similar. However, Orange Blood Essential Oil is a bit more tantalising, bright and exuberant. Your Nan will love this refreshingly sweet scent!
Orange oil has been highly sought after for centuries because of its immune-boosting effects. It’s added to many beauty products because it has antibacterial properties and a potent, fresh scent. It has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antidepressant, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
