Hi Mystic Moments, the health benefits of Turmeric have been bandied around for the past few months, with my family and friends swearing by it. I was hoping you could give me just a little bit more information.
Felipe, 30 from Exeter.
Hi Felipe, thanks for getting in touch and I completely understand that you would like to find out a little bit more before you dive in! Turmeric itself is a potent anti-inflammatory herb that has been medicating people for centuries. The active compound that resides in Turmeric, Curcumin, has been studied in depth for its health benefits and disease-fighting potential. Now it's time for me to sink my teeth into the juicy health benefits of Turmeric.
Three excellent benefits of using Turmeric.
Fighting against Inflammation
Due to Turmeric’s powerful anti-inflammatory benefits, it can be extremely effective against many inflammation-related health conditions. Examples of this would be Metabolic Syndrome, Heart Disease and in some cases, even Cancer. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidants compounds present in Curcurmin may help protect against an array of heart conditions, including Diabetic Cardiomyopathy and Arrhythmia.
Boosts the Immune System
The main reason for this is the Curcumin present in Turmeric once again. It’s anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial make it a big dog for your health. Curcumin often struggles to be absorbed well into the bloodstream which is why many consume it alongside black pepper. This will increase the absorption rates due to the substance called Piperine being present in the Black Pepper.
Easing Joint Pain
Once again the anti-inflammatory benefits of Curcumin may help to ease joint pain significantly. Even my own Grandad swears by it, and he was always constantly in pain before he started consuming Turmeric. I even take some daily capsules myself because it can also be useful for soothing soreness experienced by athletes. This superfood is remarkable in the battle against aches and pains.
The Best Ways to Use Turmeric
Felipe, I’ll be honest if you love the taste of Turmeric you are in luck! You can put it with almost anything, and it can turn even the blandest of dishes to healthy cuisines.
Golden milk. Just add one teaspoon of Turmeric powder to any milk variant and mix it up. You can also add in a teaspoon of Raw honey to give it that extra bit of sweetness.
Add it to food. Simply add a tablespoon of powdered turmeric to your any soup along with lots of fresh oregano, to boost your immune system. You could even sprinkle some Turmeric into your scrambled eggs or if you want to be daring sprinkle over your bowl of chips. They will undoubtedly be the healthiest chips you've ever eaten. The taste is mild, so usually, the Turmeric can go undetected which especially great when trying to encourage kids to eat it.
A lovely cuppa. This right here is my Grandad's favourite. Dissolve one teaspoon of Turmeric powder into 1 cup of boiling water, and add one tablespoon of raw honey and a sprinkle of black pepper. Feel your body absorbing the Curcumin with every sip.
Super smoothie. Everyone enjoys a super healthy smoothie, but everyone loves a Turmeric smoothie! Add turmeric to your favourite smoothie and reaps the benefits. A teaspoon will suffice without changing the taste of your super smoothie too much.
No more colds. When you feel a cold is fast approaching, mix one part Turmeric powder to three parts raw honey. Then proceed to eat a teaspoon of the mixture every two hours to boost immunity and decrease inflammation.
Capsule it up.
Another painless method is to buy some empty capsules and fill them up with some Turmeric yourself, and a dash of black pepper. It's the perfect way to keep track on the exact amount of Turmeric you are ingesting daily. You can obviously buy these ready made but if you do make sure you opt for the ones that contain black pepper as that is crucial for Curcumin absorption.
That's a wrap Felipe! I hope you enjoyed your lesson on the all mighty and conquering Turmeric. Amazingly we stock variants of Turmeric ourselves. At Mystic Moments we have Turmeric Essential oil and powder. The essential oil is a a much more concentrated version of the powder. This is the best ways to use the oil.
To make the most of the stress relieving properties Turmeric can offer, diffuse or inhale 2–3 drops of turmeric essential oil.
For external use, including inflammation and pain relief, create a massage oil by diluting 5 drops of turmeric essential oil with 5 drops of a carrier oil (like jojoba) and apply to all areas of concern.
It seems your family and friends know exactly what they are talking about. Turmeric is quite simply, amazing! Peace out! x
